In about a week I will be heading to New York City for BlogHer 2012. I am so excited to attend BlogHer again, but there is one part of the trip that fills me with anxiety–the fashion. I will be in New York City after all, the home of Parsons, the Fashion Institute and birth place of Carrie Bradshaw, so I should look fabulous, right? The problem is fashionable is not quite in my repertoire.
Day in and day out I wear what my friends lovingly refer to as my “mommy uniform.” The “mommy uniform” consists of a navy blue or black t-shirt, khaki shorts, and flip flops. I have no idea how this whole uniform thing got started, but inevitably every trip to the mall during the last decade has me coming home with a new navy blue or black shirt or a new pair of khaki shorts. In fact, I must confess I bought a new pair of khaki shorts this weekend, but in my defense they were an additional 50% off the sale price. Really, can one ever have too much khaki?
At last count I have 27 blue or black t-shirts, 11 pairs of khaki shorts. I can’t even bear to count all the flip-flops. (But, after all, I do live in Florida.) So when I heard Microsoft was giving away a head-to- toe style makeover to 5 lucky bloggers attending BlogHer’12, I had to raise my hand and shout, “Pick me, pick me!”
It’s not that I don’t like my mommy uniform, clearly I do or I wouldn’t keep buying it over and over and over again, but it is time for a change. I am turning 40 in October (yikes), and I want to look 40 and fabulous, not like some older, washed out version of myself from 10 years ago. I need someone to help me break the chain of khaki. A makeover by a celebrity stylist would be a dream come true!
In writing this post, I’m entering the Microsoft Windows Style Makeover Sweepstakes for a chance to win a head to toe makeover!
