How Many Sunday Papers Should You Buy

How Many Sunday Papers Should You Buy?

Reader Laura asked, “Hi, I was wondering how many Sunday papers you recommend buying each week?”

Thank you so much for writing Laura. That is an excellent question!

A friend of mine shared with me the other day how frustrated she was that she wasn’t able to take advantage of the great B1G1 deals because she only had one coupon. If you really want to be able to get the best deals, you need at least two sets of Sunday inserts. This will give you the two coupons you’ll need to do a B1G1 deal at a store like Publix.

Each week, the Sunday Coupon Preview lists all the inserts for that Sunday and lists all the possible coupons (some coupons vary by region). I look over this list to determine how many papers I will need. Some inserts, have coupons that just jump off the page at you! You know if there is a $3.00/1 Snuggle, then that will likely make for some FREE Snuggle. When the coupons are really good, I get as many papers as I can! That is not to say I go out and buy 10 papers. I have one Sunday paper delivered and I get two free papers that each have inserts. I also get inserts from family and friends. On average, I have a minimum of four inserts every week. This allows me to not only get that great B1G1 deal, but to stock up!

You can read more about where I get my coupons in Building Your Coupon Stash.

I usually get two papers a week. But if there's a great coupon that I want extras of I'll order more from a coupon clipping service.

I've also heard some couponers recommend getting the same amount as people in your family especially if you are starting out and wanting to build a stockpile of food and household. I have 5 in my family and find that 3 or 4 papers is plenty to keep the deals rolling in.

I usually stick to 2 papers too. I have always recommended one paper per family member. That seems to be a good rule of thumb!

I usually buy only 2 papers, but have a deal with the girls I work with that if they bring me the coupon circulars from the papers they get? Then I give them an envelope on Monday that has coupons for things they use or need, along with what stores to use them at and how. So they know when they walk into CVS, Publix, Winn-Dixie or where ever? They are there for a reason, they have their list and their coupons! It's a win-win deal :)

(And I save my pocket change through the week and have more than enough to buy those 2 Sunday papers)
