Extreme Couponing Guide: Coupon Organization

by ThePrudentPatron on October 20, 2011

Now that you have your coupons, we’re going to look at the different ways to organize your coupons, including a video on my “mushed method!”

The number one method we see on Extreme Couponing is the coupon binder. This is the method that I used for years. It is very popular because by clipping all your coupons and putting them in a binder you get to know exactly what you have. Plus you can bring all your coupons with you on your shopping trips. If you happened to find an unadvertised sale, you will always be prepared with a binder!

To make a binder of you own, you need sheet protectors, baseball card inserts, tab dividers  and a dual ring, zippered binder. you can order these on Amazon or find them at your local Target or Walmart. If you are interested in organizing your coupons into a binder, read more about bulding a binder, and see how I set up my binder.

The other popular method is insert collection. This method is by far the easiest. All you need to do is write the date of your insert on the front and save them in a file, box, 13-Pocket Accordion Folder or any other container you choose. Then just clip the coupon when you need it. It takes a little more time to prepare for your shop, but the time you save not clipping all your coupons more than makes up for it. If this sounds like the method for you, read more about how to set up your insert collection system and use it with the coupon match-ups.

Now on to my method. As I mentioned, I used the binder method for years, but keeping up with all that clipping was too time consuming. The inserts keep piling up in hopes that I would catch up. That’s when I started doing my own organizational method which is a combination of the binder and the insert collecting. I called it my “mushed method.”

If creating your own system isn’t for you, there are several commercially made systems you can try too. One of the most popular commercially produced systems is  The Couponizer: Save More Than Money. See more even more choices to organize your coupons.
