Important Update: This policy has changed. See Walmart Revised Coupon Policy.
Great news, Walmart has a great new coupon policy and there are some very positive changes! Here are the big ones:
- Walmart will accept competitor’s “Check Out Coupons” or catalinas (YAY!). They MUST be legible, have “manufacturer’s coupon” written on them with specific requirements, a valid remit address for the manufacturer on them, a valid expiration date and a scannable bar code. – This means you will be able to use Walgreens Register Rewards at Walmart!
- Coupons MAY EXCEED THE PRICE OF THE ITEM. Change may be given or applied towards the cost of the basket purchase. - Wahoo, that’s right cash back!!!
Many shoppers have been testing the policy this weekend and Walmart is following their new policy!
I would HIGHLY recommend that you print out this new coupon policy and take it with you just in case. I put mine right into my binder!
See Our Walmart Category to stay up-to-date on all the latest Walmart Deals!

So does this mean a target coupon will be accepted at Wal-mart? Like if I print off a coupon on targets website for 50 cents off an item, will Wal-mart accept it. Still trying to figure out this coupon thing
(Would love to shop at target, but the closes one is 40 mins away)
Suzy – Walmart will not accept other store’s store coupons, only manufacturer coupons. The walgreens Register Rewards that I mentioned are technically manufacturer coupons and they say so on the top of the Register Reward.
So i went to walmart and of corse forgot the print out of new policy. When i tried to use my wags RR they said they cant take it cause it says $3 of next purchase. Is that right does it have to have an item discription on it to use it?? Little confused on the policy. Thanks
Kathy – This policy has been revised not to included RR. Here is the revised policy: http://theprudentpatron.com/2011/03/walmarts-new-coupon-policy-take-two.html
