Coupon Lingo and Abbreviations

If you are new to couponing, you might be confused by certain abbreviations you see in my blog posts. I compiled a list of the most commonly used coupon abbreviations and key money saving terms. These are used throughout the blogging/couponing community and you will see them regularly on The Prudent Patron!

Coupon Lingo:

B1G1 (or BOGO), B2G1 = Buy One Get One Free, Buy Two Get One Free

Blinkie = Coupon that a little machine near a product spits out in the store.

Cat = Catalina. Virtual Money or Coupons that print off with your receipt.

CRT = Cash Register Tape, aka, your receipt.

ECB = Extra Care Buck. This is a coupon that prints at CVS at the bottom of your receipt. You can use these like cash.

FAR = Free After Rebate

FF = Fire Fox

GC = Gift Card

IE = Internet Explorer

MFR = Manufacturer

MIR = Mail In Rebate

ONYO = On Your Next Order

OoP = Out of Pocket. The amount in cash that you spend.

PDF = This is a coupon that opens up through adobe.

Peelie = This is a coupon found on the package of a product.

PG = Proctor and Gamble Coupon insert that comes in your local paper.

PSA = Prices Start At

PoP = Proof of purchase, like a UPC.

Q = Coupon

Rain Check = When your store is out of a sale item you would get a rain check to secure the sale price.

Rolling = Permanent Link to a coupon that is periodically refreshed

RP = Redplum. This is a coupon insert that comes in your local paper.

RR = Register Rewards. Walgreens’ catalina type coupon

SCR- Single Check Rebate (rebate system at Rite Aid)

SS = Smartsource. This is a coupon insert that comes in your local paper.

Stacking = Using a manufacturer and store coupon together on one item.

Tearpad = A pad of coupons or rebates near a product you can tear off.

UPC = Bar Code of an Item

WAGS = Walgreens

WT = Wine Tag. Coupon found around the neck of a wine bottle.

WYB – When You Buy

YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary – Deal may vary from store to store.

what does DNA 9 or DNT 5 stand for

i know Toys r us used to take multiple coupons for one pack of diapers. but they seem to have stopped doing that. Do you know of any other stores that do ?

DNA 9 and DNT 5 is 2 versions of bar codes and the format they use.

I am new to couponing. I am glad I found your site b/c I live in Fl and doing coupons is different here then the other states. Thank you for your help.

You used one that I have not seen before….IVC, or have just plain forgot or it is just not coming to me….you used it in conjunction with another coupon on Wal-Greens sales…..please help and thanks so very much!!

I will ad it for us Brenda. IVC means Instant Value Coupon. They can be found in booklets at the front of the store.
